King meets Quartet’s representative, US general

AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah and Tony Blair, representative of the International Quartet for Middle East peace, on Monday reviewed challenges and efforts exerted to achieve regional peace and stability.

During a meeting at Al Husseiniya palace, King Abdullah and the Quartet representative stressed the importance of arriving at a comprehensive and just solution for the Palestinian issue, which, he said, is the core and essence of the conflict in the Middle East, on the basis of the two-state solution. 

At the meeting, attended by Royal Court Chief Fayez Tarawneh, Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh and Director of the King’s Office Jafar Hassan, the King and Blair also discussed the latest developments related to regional and international issues, according to a Royal Court statement.  

Also on Monday, His Majesty King Abdullah received General Joseph L. Votel, commander of the US Special Operations Command, who is currently visiting the Kingdom. 

At the meeting, the King and Votel reviewed bilateral cooperation, especially in military-related fields as well as efforts exerted to combat terrorism.

The meeting was attended by HRH Prince Feisal and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs-of-Staff Gen. Mashal Al Zaben, who is also the King’s military adviser.
