Kingdom needs more int’l aid to sustain services to refugees — King

AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday met New Zealand's Minister of Foreign Affairs Murray McCully over bilateral ties and the latest regional developments.

The King highlighted the main challenges facing the region and efforts to bring about peace and stability, especially those geared towards resolving the Palestinian issue, which is the "core" conflict in the region, based on the two-state solution, a Royal Court statement said. 

The Monarch also acquainted McCully with efforts exerted as part of the international alliance to combat terrorism and extremism. 

On the situation in Syria, he underlined the importance of reaching a comprehensive political solution to end the crisis, and preserving the unity and cohesion of the country, highlighting the burden the influx of Syrian refugees impose on Jordan.

His Majesty called on the international community to increase its support to the Kingdom to enable it to continue its humanitarian role towards the refugees.

On the other hand, the King cited opportunities available to boost cooperation with New Zealand at various levels. 

McCully underlined his country's commitment to cooperate with Jordan in different areas, voicing New Zealand's appreciation for Jordan’s "pivotal" role in maintaining world peace and security, according to the statement.
