Army chief checks on units guarding Iraq border

AMMAN — Jordan will not spare any effort to deal with any threat to national security and will use all means available to defend its territory, a top officer said.
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs-of-Staff Gen. Mashal Al Zaben made the remarks on Tuesday as he checked on the Jordanian-Iraqi border and toured various military units based in the area.
Unit commanders briefed Zaben on the duties of these military units and acquainted him with the various measures in place to safeguard border security and foil attempts of infiltration and smuggling which could endanger national security.
Zaben also checked the Karameh border crossing with Iraq, where he expressed satisfaction with procedures taken by all units to ensure the continuity of work at the facility.
In an extraordinary parliamentary session on Monday, Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh and Interior Minister Hussein Majali announced that the Kingdom has taken all necessary steps to ensure full control over the border with the Jordan Armed Forces and security forces fully prepared to protect Jordan.
