Thneibat hails drop in violations as Tawjihi session finishes

AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister for Services and Minister of Education Mohammad Thneibat on Sunday announced the end of the summer session of the General Secondary Education Certificate Examination (Tawjihi).

Thneibat expressed hope that the exam results would be positive for higher education, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Tawjihi results determine which university a student can attend as well as what subject the student can study. Thneibat stressed that the national exam highlights the true concept of justice among students, according to Petra.

This session witnessed a remarkable drop in violations against Tawjihi regulations, with fewer than 300 breaches, the minister said, attributing the decline to the extensive preparation by students and their commitment, parents' awareness and the cooperation of supporting organisations.

He added that the ministry achieved its plans to restore the reputation of the entire educational process, noting that the credibility of Tawjihi is the biggest indicator for such a reputation, Petra reported.

The process of correcting papers has already started with the participation of around 18,000 teachers covering 95 correction centres across the Kingdom, Thneibat noted, expressing hope that all exams will be marked as quickly as possible so that results can be announced earlier than in previous years.

A total of 102,000 students sat for the exam on its last day. The final exams were the fourth level English language test for students in the academic branch and the second level English language test for students on the vocational path.

The Tawjihi summer session started on June 13 with the participation of some 128,000 students, covering both academic and vocational streams.
