AMMAN — Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACC) Chairman Khalil Haj Tawfiq said on Sunday that the Ukrainian army had recently confiscated shipments from a port, including shipments to Jordan.
During a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Economy and Investment, he added that the continued rise in global prices will lead to new increases in commodity prices, calling for strengthening the strategic stockpile to raise competitiveness among traders.
He pointed out that Jordan imports about 4 million tonnes of foodstuffs annually through the private sector, which constitutes about 85 per cent of the Kingdom’s food. He highlighted the existence of a paid amount of 5,500 tonnes of oil and 3,000 tonnes of legumes, which will be delivered to the Kingdom from Egypt.
