AMMAN — Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Maha Ali on Wednesday said the food sector should support the ministry’s efforts in securing a safe stock of food.
During a meeting with the council of the Foodstuff Traders Association, chaired by Khalil Haj Tawfiq, she expressed the ministry’s appreciation of the association’s efforts in ensuring that different kinds of food are available for citizens at reasonable prices.
Haj Tawfiq suggested forming a higher council for food safety.
Ali asked the council to submit a comprehensive proposal detailing the projected council’s objectives and duties.
The ministry on Wednesday signed a contract to purchase 100,000 tonnes of wheat at $231.5 per tonne.
According to the ministry’s spokesperson, Yanal Barmawi, the shipment will be dispatched to Jordan in October and November.
Taking these quantities into account, the Kingdom will have a stock of wheat that will last for 12 months.
