AMMAN — The partial collapse of a bridge on a highway near the airport road on Wednesday resulted in road closure and detours, but no injury, Deputy Director of the Traffic Department and Director of Amman Traffic Division Col. Bassem Kharabsheh told The Jordan Times, adding that the collapse was due to a truck’s violation of the allowed limit of the load carried on board.
The overload caused pressure on the bridge, leading to an accident on the highway in Dab’aa Municipality, in Jiza town, located 30km away from Amman. Kharabsheh said the department’s personnel dealt with the accident quickly and efficiently, and closed the two-way road temporarily until they ensured the road is safe again.
Article 52 (B) of the Traffic Law No.49 states that any vehicle that carries load exceeding the limit permitted by the department is violating the law, exposing the driver to legal consequences. Kharabsheh stressed that the accident did not affect vehicles’ passage to the airport as it occurred in the area after the Queen Alia International Airport.
