Parents lament baby milk formula price hike

AMMAN — Price hikes of certain baby milk formulas has provoked reactions from parents in the Kingdom.
The Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) said in a statement that prices of certain imported baby formulas have been pushed upwards due to rising freight and raw material costs.
The price of certain formulas for babies under one has increased between 2.5 and 8 per cent, according to the JFDA.
Ayat Qutaishat commented that her daughter’s formula costs JD11.5 and barely lasts a week.
“Now with the increase in the prices of baby formulas, what will we do with ourselves and our children,” Qutaishat said.
Infant formula retail prices were consistent at the pharmacy where Sarah Hussein, a Jordanian mother of two, buys her daughter’s baby formula.
“My daughter’s formula costs around JD17, and it lasts for around 10-14 days, only because my daughter has stopped drinking that much,” Hussein told The Jordan Times.
