AMMAN — The Jordan River Foundation (JRF) has signed a cooperation agreement with the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) aimed at cooperation in vocational and technical training and providing services to the targeted groups of both sides.

The agreement, signed by FAO Representative in Jordan Nabil Assaf and JRF Director General Enaam Barrisihi, stipulates cooperation in a capacity-building programme for 120 women in three governorates: Balqa, Jerash, and Ajloun, as part of the FAO-funded "Enhancing the Resilience of Rural Women through Forest Products Valuation" project, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Friday.

The project aims to enhance the participation of rural women in increasing income from forest products by providing high-quality inputs and developing technical and managerial skills.

The project's activities include a technical and vocational training programme to equip women with skills in manufacturing carob, sumac and honey, in addition to technical skills in project management and financial literacy to improve their chances of joining the labour market.

Through its Community Empowerment Programme, the JRF seeks to empower individuals, local communities, and community-based organisations to achieve sustainable development through various projects and initiatives to enhance entrepreneurial skills and enter the labour market.

The programme also offers a variety of training materials on basic life skills and financial literacy to engage community members effectively and enable them to overcome their economic and social challenges.

FAO leads international efforts to eradicate hunger, aims to achieve food security for all, and ensures that people regularly have enough high-quality food to lead active and healthy lives.

The organisation operates in more than 140 countries worldwide, Petra added.
