AMMAN — A technical meeting of the international donors for the Red Sea-Dead Sea Water Conveyance Project’s (Red-Dead) first phase was held in Aqaba on Monday in coordination with the US government, the World Bank and the concerned regional parties, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

More than 40 representatives of governments and international financial institutions interested in funding the mega-project attended the meeting, during which technical, legal and financial issues were discussed, Petra said.

The Red-Dead project’s main components are a seawater intake structure; an intake pump station; a seawater pipeline; a desalination plant with a capacity of 65-85 million cubic metres per year; a desalination brine conveyance pipeline; two lifting pump stations; hydropower plants; and discharge facilities at the Dead Sea.

Jordan signed a memorandum of understanding with Israel and Palestine in December 2013 to implement the first phase of the Red-Dead project.
