AMMAN — Authorities on Tuesday said they are trying to locate the remains of a man after finding a piece of human remains in a trash bag in the Balqa Governorate a day earlier.

The body part of a young male was found by a shepherd near a road that leads to the Ein Basha area, a senior judicial source said.

“Investigators and forensic experts were dispatched to the area to look for other body parts, including the head of the victim,” the senior judicial source told The Jordan Times.

A senior medical source said the body part was sent to the National Institute of Forensic Medicine for examination.

“From the initial examination, it was clear to forensic specialists that the victim was murdered shortly before the body part was found,” the senior medical source told The Jordan Times.

The medical source added that “from preliminary examinations, it seems the body was sliced with a saw”.

“Investigators will learn more about the incident once more body parts are located,” the senior medical source said.

The Criminal Court prosecutor ordered that samples be taken from the victim for DNA analysis, the senior medical source said.

“We are hopeful that the DNA findings will help the investigator locate a next of kin,” the medical source said.

Police are currently reviewing missing person files in an attempt to identify the victim and learn more about this gruesome murder, the senior judicial source said.

Police Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi confirmed that a homicide occurred on Monday in the Balqa Governorate but refused to reveal any further details.

“We will inform the public with more details about the murder once our investigations are over,” Sartawi told The Jordan Times.
