AMMAN — Foreign workers in Jordan wishing to leave the Kingdom amid the COVID-19 pandemic will be able to withdraw their social security benefits before their departure, Minister of Labour Nidal Bataineh said on Monday.

The minister said that, following the evaluation of leave applications, which must be submitted by May 5, names will be sent to the Social Security Corporation (SSC) to be processed, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

He added that the workers will receive a notification stating that the application has been accepted, and may receive their financial dues within 72 hours from the last day of the platform's registration period, noting that the obtained notification also serves as a permit to visit the nearest SSC branch.

Any fines or fees related to work permits will be cancelled upon the workers’ departure from the country, as these workers have also been impacted by the economic ramifications of the pandemic, the minister said, adding that those who have worked illegally will also be included in this exemption.
