Fire on cargo ship containing sulphur extinguished

AMMAN — A minor fire on Wednesday broke out on a ship docked at one of the berths in the Port of Aqaba, which was carrying a cargo of sulphur belonging to the Jordanian Indian Fertiliser Company (JIFCO). The Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) confirmed that the fire was successfully brought under control by the Public Safety Personnel of the Industrial Ports Company with the support of the Industrial Complex's security team, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. Civil Defence Department's teams also rushed to the site to ensure proper control and complete extinguishment of the fire with no material or human damage has been reported. Necessary inspection and maintenance work is currently underway, and once completed, regular unloading operations will resume, Petra added. The ASEZA's environmental teams monitored all actions taken, investigating the causes of the incident and assessing the potential environmental impact.
