AMMAN — Interior Minister Mazen Faraya and Canadian Ambassador, Tarik Ali Khan, on Monday discussed means to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
Faraya stressed the importance of boosting economic and political relations, commending Canada's support for Jordan’s reform programmes and development projects, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Jordan's efforts to manage the refugee crisis often exceeded its potential and resources, the minister said, noting that the Kingdom’s resources were constantly being stretched as a result of the large numbers of Syrian refugees taking refuge in Jordan.
In this regard, Faraya stressed the need for further support from donor countries, organisations and the concerned institutions to overcome the consequences of the crisis.
Faraya called on the international community to pay attention to local refugee-host communities and establish productive projects that focus on health, education and service provision.
The Canadian ambassador stressed his country's desire to enhance bilateral relations with the Kingdom, commending the Jordanian approach in implementing political and economic reforms and taking on the challenge of hosting Syrian refugees despite the Kingdom’s own economic difficulties.
