AMMAN — Civil Defence personnel, in cooperation with forestry teams from Ajloun and Jerash, aided by Royal Jordanian Air Force aircraft, are still working to control a fire that broke out in Wadi Al Sham forest, located between Husseiniyat and Anjara areas, which has affected large areas of forest trees, according to Agriculture Minister Khalid Hneifat.
The minister added that the cause of the fire is not known and an investigation will be launched to determine its origin. The high density of weeds and high temperatures contributed to the rapid spread of the fire, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Hneifat expressed appreciation for the efforts of the armed forces, Civil Defence and forestry personnel in preventing the fire from spreading to large areas of forest trees and orchards.
He called on the public to avoid setting fires at these times, and to refrain from using fire to remove weeds around homes or in farms.
