AMMAN — The Kingdom will be affected on Friday by a cold and wet air mass accompanied by a depression centred over Cyprus, pushing thermometers down and bringing chilly and cloudy conditions accompanied by rainfall, according to the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD).

Rain may turn heavy accompanied by hail in some regions, causing flash floods in valleys and low-lying areas, the JMD forecast.

Snow showers are also expected on Friday around midnight and Saturday morning in mountainous areas, especially in the south, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported quoting the JMD.

Winds will be westerly with strong gusts, stirring dust in the Badia, the weather department said.

Mercury levels will continue to drop on Saturday, as chilly and cloudy conditions persist with heavy downpours accompanied by thunder and hail at times, forming floods in valleys and low-lying areas, Petra reported.

Light snow is also expected at times over the highlands with westerly brisk winds and powerful gusts of 80 kilometres per hour, which are expected to raise dust in the Badia, the JMD added.
