AMMAN — The Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) has handled  9 cases, including two major attempts to smuggle narcotics, with quantities of 600,000 and 210,000 pills respectively..

The Public Security Directorate’s (PSD) spokesperson reported that the department’s personnel have arrested 19 individuals involved in drug trafficking, distribution, and smuggling across various regions of the Kingdom.

A notable case involved the thwarted attempt to smuggle 600,000 pills into a neighbouring country. A specialised investigative team had been tracking information for about a month, leading to a raid on a warehouse in Mafraq. This operation resulted in the arrest of five individuals and the seizure of illicit pills, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

In a separate operation in the Northern Badia region, a drug trafficker, believed to be linked to regional smuggling groups, was apprehended in possession of 210,000 pills.

Authorities also discovered a large bag containing 100,000 narcotic pills at the Jaber border crossing, leading to the arrest of two individuals attempting to smuggle them into the Kingdom. The suspects were apprehended at different times, with one of them resisting arrest and injuring a drug officer in the process. The officer was taken to a hospital and is currently in moderate condition.

Additional security campaigns conducted across the Kingdom resulted in the arrest of four individuals in Mafraq, from whom significant quantities of drugs were seized.

In the south of Amman, two separate cases led to the arrest of two traffickers found with substantial quantities of narcotics.

In Madaba, authorities raided a tent used by a drug trafficker for storage and distribution, leading to the arrest of the suspect and the seizure of 46 palm-sized sheets of hashish and 5,000 narcotic pills.

In Zarqa, two drug traffickers were arrested with 2,000 pills and eight palm-sized sheets of hashish.

In Karak, two more traffickers were apprehended with 39 palm-sized sheets of hashish and an undisclosed quantity of narcotic pills.

All cases have been referred to the prosecutor of the State Security Court for further legal proceedings.
