96 COVID deaths, 4775 virus cases recorded Thursday

AMMAN — Ninety-six COVID-19 deaths and 4,775 virus cases were recorded in the Kingdom on Thursday, increasing the caseload to 655,456, the government announced.

The new fatalities took the Kingdom’s coronavirus death toll to 7,565 according to a joint statement issued by the Prime Ministry and the Ministry of Health.

The share of tests returning a positive result, known as positive rate, stood at nearly 12.02 per cent, compared with 13 per cent reported on Wednesday.

A total of 39,735 virus tests were also conducted on Thursday, bringing the cumulative number of coronavirus tests administered since the outbreak of the pandemic to 6,238,652, according to the statement.

The statement added that 6,444 recoveries were registered in hospitals and home quarantine on Thursday, bringing the total number of recoveries to 576,771.

The statement added that there are currently 71,120 active COVID-19 cases in Jordan.

A total of 342 COVID-19 patients were admitted to hospitals on Thursday, taking the number of patients currently receiving care for COVID-19 in hospitals to 2,933, the statement said, adding that 337 recovered patients left hospitals.

On hospital capacities, the statement revealed that in the northern region, the occupancy rate of isolation beds occupied by COVID-19 patients reached 46 per cent, ICU beds reached 74 per cent, while occupancy rate of ventilators stood at 48 per cent.

In the central region, isolation bed occupancy rate reached 58 per cent, 69 per cent for ICUs and 37 per cent for ventilators.

The statement added that the southern region registered an isolation beds occupancy rate of 30 per cent, 38 per cent for ICUs and 25 per cent for ventilators.

The cases comprised 1,841 infections in Amman, 894 in Irbid, including 59 in Ramtha district, 239 in Balqa, 688 in Zarqa, 130 in Madaba, 163 in Aqaba, 188 in Mafraq, 89 in Jerash, 113 in Ajloun, 215 in Karak, 106 in Tafileh and 109 in Maan, including five cases in Petra district.
