60 Jordanians planning march from Amman to Aqaba to shed light on climate change

AMMAN — Sixty Jordanians are planning to start a march from Amman to Aqaba on Thursday to raise awareness of climate change, the organisers said on Monday. 

The initiative is being held ahead of the 22nd session of the Conference of the Parties, which will be hosted in November in Morocco.

“[This march] is to show the world that youth in Jordan are well aware of global issues such as climate change [and] we are part of the world,” Ahmad Nobani, the founder of the Green Generation Foundation, the event’s organiser, told The Jordan Times.

The activity is part of a regional event held in coordination with the Arab Youth Climate Movement, he said.

The march will be supported by the Royal Society for Conservation of Nature, preparing camps along the way from Amman to Aqaba for the participants, Nobani noted. 

The 300km march challenge was planned by Face the Force team, led by Anas Dalqamouni and Muhannad Karajeh, to seek a new adventure.

The Green Generation Foundation suggested adding an environmental theme to the march.

Young environmental activists will accompany participants in the march to inform them of the history of climate change and raise their awareness, Nobani added. 

Face the Force met the participants in the environmental activity on Sunday, and they expressed their excitement and enthusiasm for the march. 

Elham Dmour, 50, said she is excited to join the 300km march because she loves adventure and seeks to lose some weight.

A police car and an ambulance will be accompanying the participants, whose ages are between 22 and 72.
