Prince Hassan calls for reinstating UNRWA cash assistance

AMMAN — HRH Prince Hassan on Tuesday expressed his “deep concern” over the news that UNRWA has decided to suspend its cash assistance programme in Gaza, where thousands of homes were damaged or destroyed and families left homeless and uprooted.

The prince called on the international community to support the UNRWA programme and provide the necessary funds needed for its completion, according to a statement released by his office.

“It is important to remind the world of the human suffering and horrors experienced by Gazans. There was a unanimous agreement to rebuild Gaza and restore those affected. As we all know, the right to shelter is one of the most fundamental human rights stated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.”

He added that the world community should not ignore the human suffering in Gaza and lessons should be learnt from past experiences, the statement said.

“The inertia in responding to the needs of Gaza only adds fuel to the fire at a time when we have formed an international alliance to combat extremism and terrorism,” the prince concluded.
