Arab role in confronting Israel’s annexation plan

Jul 06,2020 - Last updated at Jul 06,2020

Israel is applying its “deal of the century” part unilaterally, which was announced in January 2020 by US President Dolad Trump. It is annexing the Palestinian territories to its sovereignty by force. Israel seeks to blockade and surround Palestinian homes and communities in the West Bank and dismember them completely. Israel aims to control internal movement between Palestinian citizens as well by the outside world, including the communication with Jordan, which is considered the West Bank’s natural lung.

This move carries internal displacement risks in the West Bank and Jordan, moreover ending the political negotiations and even provoking the signed agreements and treaties with the Palestinians and Jordanians. Accordingly, this step by Israel, if implied, is considered a dramatic strategic development and change. It includes several dimensions for the benefit of the extreme current in Israel by transferring Arab-Israeli relations to a new reality in which Israel is superior in the region, as well to end the Palestinian cause from Arab and international agenda.

The international and regional reactions have only come loud and dismissive of this Israeli decision. However, it has not yet turned into programmes of action that deters Israel. They still do not agree with a single strategy even though some of them adhere to diplomacy and negotiation as the only path that will end by adaptation with the Israeli acquisition. Other Arab and Palestinian parties are considering the comprehensive confrontation against emerging Israeli policy as a substantial means to deter Israel from applying this decision.

The full analysis signifies that such an option is capable of restraining Israel and putting an end to its provocation policy against Palestinians and their land. The choice of comprehensive confrontation includes legal, diplomatic, media, intellectual and public and official actions as well as the encounter of Israeli army and settlers in Palestine with the available means. The role of the Arab world is required to support this option by adopting the Jordanian and Palestinian position that rejects the Israeli plan, moreover, to assist at the economic and political level withstand the expected risks. Also, to exert pressure on the United States, which unfortunately backs the Israeli plan.

Arab governments ought to adopt a new policy based on allowing the public role to be launched in the boycott campaigns against Israel, forming a unified national body in every Arab country to carry out political and civic activities. Also, providing political and legal cover for the struggle of the Palestinian people and their resistance under the comprehensive confrontation option. Finally, contributing to unite Palestinian factions under one leadership to lead their struggle against Israeli occupation. They are to back Palestinian goals to ending the Israeli occupation as well to establish the full sovereign Palestinian state with Jerusalem city as its capital.
