World Civil Defence Day marked with call for disaster preparedness

AMMAN — Wednesday marked World Civil Defence Day, with Interior Minister Ghaleb Zu’bi, president of the Civil Defence Higher Council, attending a Civil Defence Department (CDD) celebration. CDD Director General Lt. Gen. Talal Kofahi also attended the event, with this year’s slogan being “Hand in hand with civil protection against disasters”, a CDD statement said.

The slogan was adopted in order to help unite local, regional and international efforts, the statement said, and stress the importance of maintaining coordination, cooperation and exchange of expertise to deal with disasters.

On the sidelines of the ceremony, a workshop was held to discuss the importance of planning and preparing for disasters and emergencies, as part of a strategy that aims to maintain national security and strengthen coordination with the international community in cases of emergency.
