AMMAN — The Environment Ministry and USAID on Monday launched a two-day workshop on the use of biosolids to improve soil and stimulate plant growth, according to a statement released by the US agency.
The workshop provides a forum for Jordanian officials to discuss the safety, feasibility and benefits of biosolids with experts from Turkey, Oman, Saudi Arabia and the US, which currently use the materials, the statement said.
“The accumulation of biosolids is becoming an environmental and economic burden on Jordan.
A national strategy is necessary for the safe management of these materials,” said Environment Minister Taher Shakhshir.
