AMMAN — The Water Ministry and Water Authority, in cooperation with German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), on Sunday organised a workshop to launch guidelines for planning and administrating projects of water desalination stations.
The three-day workshop aims at having a firsthand look at the latest international experiences and technologies in treating brackish and seawater, according to a ministry statement.
Water Ministry Secretary General Jihad Mahamid said that water desalination is the best way to improve the water situation in Jordan and solve water shortage that has been facing the Kingdom for years, referring to the increasing drop in utilising traditional water resources due to climate change and overuse to meet the accelerating demand for water.
Water Authority Secretary General Bashar Bataineh said that the water sector's reliance on sustainable untraditional water resources will enable the ministry to face any emergency related to exacerbating circumstances.
