Workshop examines benefits of work-based learning module

AMMAN — The Technical and Vocational Education and Training sector representatives finalised the work-based learning (WBL) module’s implementation criteria during a workshop on Wednesday.

The Belgium Development Agency (Enabel)-Jordan held the workshop titled “Criteria for the Accreditation and Selection of Workplaces for Work Based Learning (WBL)”, which was attended by the Technical and Vocational Skills Development Commission’s (TVSDC) representatives, as well as representatives of technical and vocational education sector and the private sector. 

WBL is a project tailored to the context of the Jordanian labour market and the vocational and technical education and training sector. 

The project was initiated by Enabel-Jordan under the umbrella of Qudra 2 programme. WBL aims at developing the skills of Syrian refugees and vulnerable Jordanian youth. 

During the workshop, attendants finalised the legislative and technical statements for the WBL module, which will be adopted by technical and vocational education institutions in Jordan.

“WBL holds the strategic potential to address unemployment challenges in Jordan, and offers decent work opportunities to young Jordanians and refugees,” Christelle Jocquet, regional representative of Enabel-Jordan, said during her opening remarks. 

Meanwhile, Zaid Al Qaisi, Enabel’s skills development expert and acting intervention manager, told The Jordan Times that the WBL module is an effort to regulate the work-based learning experience that vocational and technical students need to acquire in order to engage with the labour market. 

“WBL is an approach that helps youth enter the workforce by giving them the opportunity to acquire the necessary skills for the labour market,” Qaisi added. 

Qaisi highlighted Enabel’s keenness to activate the WBL module in Jordan with the support of its strategic partners.
