AMMAN — Work is under way to develop a mechanism to improve the performance of electricity distribution companies’ grids, reduce power outages and lower power failure repair periods to ensure the sustainability of the current electric supply.
Additionally, incompetent entities will be held accountable, Energy Minister Saleh Kharabsheh said on Saturday.
Speaking during a meeting to discuss performance indicators of electricity distribution companies during the recent weather conditions, Kharabsheh noted that work is underway to find a mechanism that commits sector companies to improving performance, especially during exceptional and emergency cases.
The minister also stressed the importance of the electricity distribution companies' commitment to ensuring the security of their electricity supply and its sustainability.
The minister said that the mechanism, which will be issued by the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission, will feature performance indicators. These criteria are mainly aimed to enhance service quality and country cooperation within the sector in dealing with emergency situations.
