AMMAN — No strong polar front will affect the Kingdom in the next two days, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said on Monday, dispelling rumours circulating in the country.
Since the beginning of this week, reports published on some local news websites and social media networks claimed that a strong depression will hit the Kingdom as of Tuesday, bringing heavy snow.
A JMD meteorologist, however, told The Jordan Times that only unstable weather conditions will affect the country on Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing rain to several regions.
“Rainfall is expected in several parts of the Kingdom on Tuesday, accompanied by thunder and it will not be strong in the eastern and southern regions,” the meteorologist said on condition of anonymity.
Temperatures in Amman are forecast to reach a high of 12°C on Tuesday, according to the JMD.
On Wednesday, the weather will be cloudy with a chance of heavy rainfall in the north, while temperatures in the capital are forecast to reach a high of 13°C, the meteorologist said.
Daytime temperatures are expected to rise to 15°C on Thursday and 16°C on Friday.
The strong polar front that affected the Kingdom over the weekend brought heavy snow to several parts of the country, with JMD stations registering the highest snow accumulation in Ras Munif in Ajloun Governorate, where it reached 80 centimetres.
