By JT - Aug 06,2015 - Last updated at Aug 06,2015

AMMAN — The UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) has granted the Arab Group for the Protection of Nature (APN) a special consultative status that allows it to actively engage with ECOSOC and its subsidiary bodies, as well as with the UN Secretariat, programme, funds and agencies, according to an APN statement released this week.

The status granted to the APN was announced during the coordination and management meeting of ECOSOC, held in late July, according to the statement.

The APN is a Jordanian NGO established in 2003 aiming to build “the capacity of the Arab peoples to sustain their natural resources”.

APN has several agricultural rehabilitation programmes in Jordan and Palestine, currently hosting the secretariat of the Arab Network for Food Sovereignty that it co-founded in 2012 with 49 civil society organisations from the Arab world.
