Today marks anniversary of former PM Sharaf’s death

AMMAN — Sunday marks the 36th anniversary of the death of former prime minister Sharif Abdul Hamid Sharaf, who passed away on July 3, 1980. Born in 1939, Sharaf obtained a BA in philosophy from the American University of Beirut in 1959 and later received a master’s degree in international law from the same university.
He served as director of the Foreign Ministry’s international organisation department and became director general of Jordan Radio. Sharaf also served as an ambassador in the Foreign Ministry and was later named minister of culture. He was Jordan’s permanent representative to the UN and also served as Royal Court chief. Sharaf assumed the post of prime minister prior to his death.
