AMMAN — Switzerland and Jordan on Thursday signed an agreement to help preserve the Kingdom’s aquifers, the Swiss embassy in Amman said.
The project aims to assess the impact of landfills on groundwater and map the vulnerability of aquifers to contamination at several landfill sites, the embassy said in a statement.
The mapping aims to help in the management of underground water in Jordan. The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation is contributing JD120,000 in funding for the project, representing 88 per cent of the total budget, according to the embassy.
The agreement was signed by HRH Princess Sumaya, the president of the Royal Scientific Society, and Swiss Ambassador Hans-Peter Lenz.
