AMMAN — The criminal court prosecutor on Wednesday started questioning a young man who allegedly stabbed and killed another man in the capital’s northeastern suburb of Marka, official sources said.
The suspect was arrested on Wednesday morning shortly after he allegedly stabbed a man during a brawl late Tuesday night, a senior judicial source said.
“Initial questioning of the suspect indicated that he was involved in a brawl with a group of people and ended up stabbing the victim,” the source told The Jordan Times.
He said police are questioning witnesses and relatives to determine “the real motive behind the brawl”.
Criminal Court Prosecutor Salah Taleb is handling the case and will further question the suspect and other witnesses in the coming days, the judicial source said.
The victim’s body was sent to the National Institute of Forensic Medicine for an autopsy, a medical source said.
Taleb issued orders for blood and tissue samples to be taken from the victim and sent to the crime lab for further analysis, the medical source added.
Public Security Department Spokesperson Maj. Amer Sartawi was unavailable Wednesday evening to comment on the incident.
