AMMAN — Canada’s Ambassador to Jordan Peter MacDougall has said that supporting refugees and finding permanent solutions to their crisis is a global responsibility, not only a Jordanian one, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Saturday.
In a press statement marking Canada’s national day, MacDougall called on all countries to bear their responsibilities in this regard, noting that Canada is “proud” to have received more than 55,000 Syrians since 2013, as well as thousands of refugees from other parts of the world.
He noted that Canada appreciates Jordan’s pivotal role in maintaining stability and security in the region, voicing his country’s pledge to offer help for the Kingdom’s economic reform plan as well as enhancing the bilateral trade ties, which, he said, have doubled since 2011.
MacDougall also referred to His Majesty King Abdullah’s meeting with Prime Minister Justine Trudeau last August during which the two leaders highlighted their countries’ common vision and partnerships.
