AMMAN — Any solution to the current crisis in Sudan must be internal and reflect the will of the Sudanese people, away from any foreign interference, Jordan's Permanent Representative to the Arab League, Amjad Adaileh, said at an Arab League meeting on Monday.
The meeting was held among permanent representatives of the League in a special session on the developments in Sudan.
During the meeting, Adaileh affirmed Jordan’s support for any decision the Arab League Council takes to contain the crisis and stop the fighting and bloodshed, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Any future steps should also ensure a return to dialogue, establish a new phase that complies with the aspirations of the Sudanese people and contribute to enhancing the country’s political and economic security and stability, he said.
“Sudan is an essential pillar of Arab national security,” Adaileh added.
The representative also called on all Sudanese parties to show a spirit of national responsibility and uphold the higher interests of Sudan and its people to stop the bloodshed and avoid internal infighting.
Adaileh referred to the importance of unified Arab efforts and the continued endeavours of the international community to meet the Sudanese people’s urgent humanitarian needs and ensure the safe evacuation of foreigners in Sudan.
There have been eight flights from Jordan to evacuate Jordanian citizens and other Arab and non-Arab nationals so far, he said.
The Kingdom also helped deliver some of the first humanitarian aid from the International Committee of the Red Cross to Sudan since the outbreak of the crisis, the representative added.
With great “pain and concern”, Jordan is following up on the unfortunate developments taking place in Sudan, which have resulted in a number of civilian casualties and injuries, Adaileh said, extending the Kingdom’s condolences and sympathies to the Sudanese people over the innocent lives who were victims of hostilities.
Adaileh also offered the Kingdom’s condolences to Egypt over the death of an assistant administrative attaché at the Egyptian embassy in Khartoum.
