Social Security Corporation to cooperate more closely with retirees society

AMMAN — Beneficiaries of the Jordanian Society for Social Security Retirees can now have their monthly subscription fees for the society deducted from their social security retirement salaries under a memo signed on Sunday.

Social Security Corporation (SSC) Director General Nadia Rawabdeh and Hamdan Khreisat, head of the Jordanian Society for Social Security Retirees, signed the memorandum of understanding, which aims to facilitate the payment procedure for beneficiaries of the society.

Rawabdeh said relations between the SSC and its retired subscribers should not be limited to retirement salaries.

“This agreement is the first step towards further cooperation with the society to provide more services,” she told reporters, urging the society to educate its beneficiaries on the SSC’s services.

Khreisat, said the agreement serves retirees, especially who reside in governorates, by paying their monthly subscriptions, which fund the society’s development projects.

In remarks to The Jordan Times, Khreisat said the society includes 800 members, only around 100 of whom are committed to paying their monthly subscriptions.

“Members who live in remote areas find it difficult to commute to our office every month to pay their subscriptions,” he noted, adding that the agreement is expected to increase the members’ commitment.

Musa Sbeihi, head of the SSC media office, said society beneficiaries wishing to benefit from the arrangement should submit written consents to the society, which will later send the names to the corporation.

“The SSC is keen on providing more services for its retirees, who are constantly growing in number,” he told The Jordan Times.

The Jordanian Society for Social Security Retirees was established in 2009 and seeks to improve the economic conditions of retirees and to protect their rights, according to a statement from the SSC.

Earlier this year, there were 1.052 million active subscribers to the SSC’s insurance coverage, constituting around 70 per cent of the Kingdom’s labour force.

Around 67,000 active establishments have their employees registered with the SSC.
