Sentenced juveniles to be hosted by civil society institutions

By JT - Aug 21,2017 - Last updated at Aug 21,2017

AMMAN — The Social Development Ministry on Monday said it will select a number of civil society institutions to host juveniles who were sentenced by courts, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The measure aims to ensure that juveniles’ freedom is not restricted, in accordance with Article 24 of the Juveniles Correctional Law.

Once hosted at the institutions, juveniles will be required to volunteer with one of society’s more vulnerable groups or in a charitable society, or they will have to attend an educational institution.

The number of sentenced juveniles currently stands at 30, while the number of detained ones is 170, according to Petra.
