AMMAN — The Senate’s Tourism and Heritage Committee on Monday met with Vice Chairman of the Executive Council of the Royal Jordanian (RJ) Samir Majali and Director General of the Commercial Sector Karim Makhlouf, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Head of the Senate’s Committee Nedal Qatamin stressed the importance of RJ as the Kingdom's national carrier, pointing to the repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic on various economic sectors, especially the aviation sector.
He referred to the oversight and legislative role played by the committee, discussing challenges and ways to overcome them.
Majali highlighted RJ’s national strategy, which aspires to stimulate tourism arrivals from neighbouring and European countries.
He noted that the company was able to pay about JD60 million in debts to the Treasury.
Makhlouf said that the national strategic plan makes use of new technologies and modern marketing methods to expand access to global destinations.
He noted that RJ is looking to increase the number of its passengers by providing advanced travel products and packages for new target groups.
For their part, members of the committee called for the need to reconsider ticket prices to encourage Jordanians to travel through the national carrier, and work to improve the services provided by the company.
