Senate rejects, endorses laws referred by Lower House

AMMAN — The Senate on Sunday rejected the Lower House’s amendments to the draft Hashemite Commission for Disabled Soldiers and the Jordan Academy of Arabic laws.
Senators endorsed deputies’ draft amendments to laws on the National Committee for De-mining and Rehabilitation, public security and agriculture.
The Senate also started deliberating a draft code of conduct for its members, aiming to assist senators in performing their constitutional duties, enhancing the role of Parliament and strengthening the values of true citizenship and democracy.

The Senate on Thursday rejected the Lower House’s amendments to the draft civil service retirement law for the second time.
The Upper House’s Financial and Economic Committee, headed by Senator Mohammad Halaiqa, on Tuesday endorsed cancelling the 2014 Privatisation Law as recommended by the Lower House.
The Senate on Thursday returned the draft civil retirement law to the Lower House after introducing amendments on the retirement of senators, deputies and ministers.
