Senate president, Egypt counterpart talk cooperation in Cairo

AMMAN — Senate President Faisal Fayez on Sunday met his Egyptian counterpart Abdelwahab Abdelrazek in Cairo.

Talks covered means to enhance bilateral relations, mainly in the political, economic and parliamentary fields, the current regional situation, matters that serve the best interests of both countries and the issues of the Arab nation, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

Fayez praised the “strong and firmly rooted relations” between Jordan and Egypt, built on mutual respect and joint coordination. 

He stressed the importance of increasing economic cooperation and joint investments in various sectors, calling on Egyptian businesspeople to take advantage of investment opportunities in Jordan, particularly in the fields of mining, water, energy, public transport and medical tourism.

Fayez also expressed appreciation of Egypt's supportive stances towards Jordan, particularly in supporting His Majesty King Abdullah's efforts to achieve peace in the region and a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian cause based on the two-state solution and international legitimacy resolutions. He also commended Egypt's support for the Hashemite Custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

Following the official talks, both sides signed a memorandum of understanding emphasising the importance of enhancing parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.

The memo stipulates that both sides work towards enhancing political, economic and parliamentary relations, as well as unify positions over issues of mutual interests in Arab and international forums.
