Second phase of water network construction at Zaatari camp starts

AMMAN — The second phase of the construction works for the water and wastewater network at Zaatari Refugee Camp in Mafraq was launched on Wednesday, according to a UNICEF statement. Representatives from the Ministry of Water, the German embassy, UNICEF and the Syrian Refugee Affairs Directorate attended the launch ceremony.

The first phase of the project resulted in an increase in efficiency and improvement of the hygienic environment for children at the camp, over 80km northeast of Amman. Thanks to funding from the German government through the KfW Bankengruppe and other donors, phase II of the water and wastewater project will complete the networks in an estimated period of 18 months, the statement said.
