AMMAN — Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and a delegation from the Senate of the Czech Republic on Monday discussed means to boost bilateral relations between Amman and Prague and reviewed several regional issues.

Safadi told the delegates, led by Vice President of the Czech Senate Ivo Barek, that there is a need to take concrete steps to develop bilateral ties in the economic, commercial, investment and tourist sectors, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The meeting also focused on a number of regional issues, including the Palestinian issue, the Syrian crisis and the war on terrorism.

The minister reiterated that the two-state solution is the only solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, which, he said, has to guarantee the establishment of an independent Palestinian state according to the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Safadi said that the Syrian crisis cannot be solved militarily, highlighting the need for increased international efforts to stop the bloodshed and bring about a new “political reality” that all Syrians accept and which meets their aspirations for a “secure, free life”.

The Kingdom is committed to defeating terrorism through military and intellectual means, stressing that terrorism does not belong to any civilisation or religion, and that it does not reflect Islam and its tolerant teachings and values, the minister underscored.

He also reviewed the burdens shouldered by Jordan  as a result of hosting more than 1.3 million Syrians “on behalf of the entire world”, urging additional international support to help the Kingdom provide educational, health and development services to refugees.

For his part, Barek praised the Kingdom’s role in enhancing regional peace and stability, stressing his country’s keenness to strenghten bilateral ties with Jordan.
