AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Monday received a phone call from UK Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs David Cameron during which the two top diplomats discussed efforts to achieve a ceasefire and ensure adequate humanitarian aid access throughout the Gaza Strip.

The two ministers also discussed US President Joe Biden's proposal for an exchange deal that would lead to a lasting ceasefire and facilitate the distribution of sufficient humanitarian aid throughout Gaza, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

Safadi and Cameron stressed the importance of approaching this proposal in a “serious and positive manner”.

Safadi reiterated Jordan's support for the efforts led by Egypt, Qatar and the US to achieve the exchange deal.

He stressed the need to stop the Israeli aggression against Gaza, open all crossings for the entry of aid, withdraw the Israeli occupation forces from Gaza and launch a reconstruction process within a comprehensive plan to implement the two-state solution within specific timelines and binding implementation guarantees as the only way to achieve a just and lasting peace, the statement said.

The two ministers also discussed means of enhancing bilateral relations, reaffirming their countries' commitment to expanding cooperation in various fields.

Also on Monday, Safadi received a phone call from Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis, another Foreign Ministry statement said.

During the phone conversation, the ministers discussed the latest developments in Gaza, focusing on efforts to achieve a ceasefire and address the humanitarian crisis.

The discussions also reviewed bilateral relations between Jordan and Switzerland, with Safadi and Cassis expressing their countries' commitment to strengthening cooperation in various fields.
