AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Monday met Spanish Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation José Manuel Albares, with talks focusing on the urgent need for an effective international effort to stop the aggression against Gaza and address the resulting humanitarian crisis.

They also discussed advancing the two-state solution as the sole path to a just and lasting peace, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

Safadi and Albares discussed steps to build international support for the recognition of Palestine, with Safadi praising Spain's recognition of Palestinian statehood.

Both ministers expressed concern about the potential escalation of the war, with Safadi stressing the need to protect Lebanon from further violence and to adhere to UN Security Council Resolution 1701 to prevent further escalation.

The ministers also reaffirmed the "deep-rooted" bilateral relations between Jordan and Spain and their commitment to enhance cooperation in various fields.

During the second edition of the seminar "Spain in the World: The International System and Geopolitical Changes", Safadi reiterated Jordan's firm position on ending the aggression on Gaza, providing adequate humanitarian aid, and pursuing the two-state solution.

Failure to achieve the two-state solution could lead to a single state characterised by apartheid, Safadi warned.

Safadi highlighted the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative, which supports the two-state solution, and criticised "the current absence of a peace partner in Israel”.

He stressed that discussions on the future of Gaza must be part of a comprehensive plan to end the conflict, end the occupation, and establish a viable Palestinian state alongside Israel.

Albares reiterated Spain's commitment to the two-state solution and an immediate ceasefire.

He also acknowledged Jordan's ongoing efforts to end the conflict, protect civilians, deliver aid to Gaza, and ensure regional stability, and underlined his country's continued cooperation with Jordan to achieve these goals.
