Safadi meets officials in Beirut, renews Jordan's full support to Lebanon

AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi reaffirmed Jordan's unwavering support for Lebanon's security, stability and sovereignty during meetings in Beirut on Monday with Lebanese officials. 

During talks with Lebanon's caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati, Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri, and Army Commander General Joseph Aoun, Safadi, Safadi, who was visiting Lebanon under the directive of His Majesty King Abdullah, emphasized Jordan's full solidarity with Lebanon in facing the repercussions of the Israeli aggression. 

He also underlined Jordan's commitment to sending all possible aid to Lebanon.

Safadi's discussions with Lebanese officials also focused on efforts to stop the Israeli aggression on Lebanon, the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, and the need to deliver assistance to Lebanon.

Safadi reiterated Jordan's support for Lebanon's efforts to elect a new president, rebuild its institutions, and empower them, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.  

He condemned Israel's war on Lebanon, the bombing of its capital, and the killing of its citizens, calling it a "brutal" aggression, a violation of international law, and a dangerous escalation that risks pushing the region into a regional war, the statement said. 

Safadi stressed the need for immediate international action, including a UN Security Council resolution to stop the aggression on Gaza, Lebanon, and the occupied West Bank, and to compel Israel to stop its violations of international law.

Mikati expressed his appreciation for the efforts of His Majesty King Abdullah to stop the aggression on Lebanon and thanked Jordan for its consistent support and the humanitarian aid it has been sending, according to the statement. 

Berri and Aoun also expressed Lebanon's gratitude to King Abdullah for his continuous efforts to support Lebanon's security, stability, and to halt the Israeli aggression.

Jordan, following Royal directives, has dispatched seven aid planes to Lebanon, carrying 110 tons of food, relief supplies, medicines, and medical equipment since the beginning of the Israeli aggression, the statement said.
