Royal Jordanian receives new A321 freighter

AMMAN — A new A321-200 PF freighter joined the Royal Jordanian (RJ) fleet on Sunday the 24th of March, bolstering its capacity to meet the cargo industry’s increasing demand. This addition aligns with the airline’s fleet strategy to reach 41 aircraft in the coming few years, according to a statement to The Jordan Times. 

This twin-engine, medium-haul aircraft has a large cargo capacity, containing 14 pallets and container positions on the main deck and an additional ten on the lower deck, with a total payload capacity of 28 tonnes with a range of 3,500 kilometres. 

The freighter is leased on a long-term basis from UMBF and is one of the most versatile aircraft in its class, the statement said. With the ability to transport containers on the main deck, it offers fast loading and offloading, enabling highly efficient flight operations. It thus underscores Royal Jordanian’s commitment to efficiency and reliability in the global cargo market. The aircraft will reach 9 new destinations on the RJ route network.

The RJ Vice Chairman/CEO, Samer Majali, said that RJ has developed the air cargo industry through the implementation of several strategies, increasing sales and improving the quality of services provided to customers in terms of speed, quality, and accuracy. He added that RJ aims to enhance Jordan’s position as the logistics hub in the region and increase its share in the freight market on a regional and international level, supported by the new cargo terminal that is fully automated, serving all kinds of cargo products, according to the statement.

Majali also expressed his optimism that the next phase will be a new stage of growth in the cargo sector, pushing the kingdom’s economic development and supporting Jordanian exports to reach different regions of the world, particularly with the modernisation process that the company is carrying out for the entire fleet and the introduction of new aircraft. Furthermore, Royal Jordanian looks optimistically forward to completing the project to update and expand the fully automated new air cargo services building. This will positively impact the Royal Jordanian’s strategy to make Amman a central hub for the Middle East and a gateway for trade in the region, the statement said.

At the beginning of this year, RJ introduced two new 195-E2 jets to serve short-haul destinations. Additional Embraer 195 and 190-E2 regional jets, narrow-body A320/A321 neo aircraft, and wide-body Boeing 787-9 will continue on joining the fleet. RJ will also expand its route network and reach new destinations, to reach 60 points around the world in the coming few years.
