AMMAN — In implementation of Royal directives, Head of the Royal Hashemite Court Yousef Issawi, head of the Follow-up Committee for the Implementation of Royal Initiatives, held two separate meetings with dignitaries and representatives of Fuheis, and the chairwoman and members of the Women's Committee in Aqaba.

The meetings came as a continuation of His Majesty King Abdullah’s meetings with dignitaries and representatives of Fuheis last Monday, and with dignitaries and people from Aqaba at the beginning of January.

During Issawi's meeting in Fuheis, in the presence of Adviser to His Majesty for Tribal Affairs Atef Hajaya, he affirmed His Majesty's keenness to activate channels of communication with the public in various regions of the Kingdom and listen to their demands and needs in coordination with the concerned authorities.

Attendees extended their appreciation for His Majesty’s visit to Fuheis and his continuous communication with people around the Kingdom, highlighting the model of coexistence in Jordan.

During the meeting, they discussed a number of issues concerning Fuheis, which focused on improving infrastructure, dealing with traffic issues that the city suffers from, enhancing road safety and reducing car accidents.

Attendees also called for the establishment of a heritage village, cultural theatres and a children's park.

They also stressed the importance of preserving the heritage of the city and its archaeological monastery area, as well as renovating kaolin factories and expanding sewage networks.

They touched on the issue of church endowments, on which some municipalities impose higher fees.

Attendees presented a proposal to train university graduates to enable them to enter the labour market, and called for the establishment of a hospital in the city.

They also reiterated the issues raised before His Majesty the King during the previous meeting.

During Issawi's meeting with the chairwoman and members of the Women's Committee in Aqaba, he affirmed His Majesty's keenness to support and empower Jordanian women and create ways for them to succeed and excel in various fields, especially through economic empowerment, which is the basis for political empowerment, he said.

He also stressed that His Majesty is keen on expanding women’s participation in public life, pointing out that in the coming period, initiatives will focus on supporting production and operational projects.

The speakers called for strengthening partisan culture among women in Aqaba.

Some attendees suggested initiating an agreement with universities in Aqaba to develop women's skills and qualify them to become self-reliant and implement entrepreneurial and productive projects through courses held for this purpose.

Participants also called for the establishment of a literacy centre in Aqaba.

Highlighting the importance of empowering women to work in the tourism sector through developing legislation and supporting their handicraft projects, they also pointed to the need to maintain women’s committees in Aqaba and provide them with a means of transportation.

They further called for focusing on agricultural projects and allocating land for women on the outskirts of Aqaba.

The demands of the Aqaba delegation also focused on the need to attend to the needs of people with disabilities.

Issawi confirmed, at the end of each meeting, that all the demands and proposals will be followed up on and studied by the relevant authorities.
