Royal Court chief attends funeral of former interior minister

AMMAN — On behalf of His Majesty King Abdullah and HRH Crown Prince Hussein, Royal Hashemite Court Chief Yousef Issawi on Tuesday attended the funeral of former minister of interior, senator, and director general of the General Intelligence Department, retired General Nathir Rashid. 

Issawi conveyed the condolences and sympathies of His Majesty the King and the Crown Prince to the family of the late Rashid, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The funeral was also attended by His Majesty's Advisor for Tribal Affairs Kneiaan Bluwi.

Rashid held the position of Minister of Interior in 1997, served several terms as a senator and was Jordan's ambassador to Morocco,

and also rose through the military ranks to become director general of the General Intelligence Department in 1970 and chaired the Jordan Phosphate Mines Company board.

He was awarded the Order of Al Istiqlal (Independence) of the First Degree and Order of the Renaissance of the First Class, in addition to several other Arab and international honours.

Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh mourned the passing of Rashid, paid tribute to his efforts in public service, and expressed condolences to his family.

 Rashid was Born in Salt in 1929, he graduated from the Iraqi Royal Military College.
