AMMAN — An 84-year-old man, who was allegedly robbed of $1 million after entering Jordan from the West Bank last month, has offered a $50,000 reward for any information that would lead to the stolen cash.
Taher Abdeen, who transports cash for money exchange shops, entered the Kingdom via the King Hussein Bridge on November 9, with a bag containing the money.
“I wanted to take a bus to Amman but could not find one so I hailed a taxi and the driver agreed to take me to Amman,” he told The Jordan Times.
Abdeen said he placed the bag in the taxi, then went to a nearby shop to get some change to pay the driver and when he returned the taxi was gone.
“I have placed an ad in the paper and distributed flyers in Northern Shuneh offering a reward to anyone who has any information on the stolen cash,” added Abdeen, who has been engaged in the business of transporting money for the past 40 years.
Abdeen had declared the amount to customs agents at the border when he entered the country, and reported the theft of the bag to the police, who have been working on the case.
“But so far we have not heard from the police,” he noted.
Public Security Department Spokesperson Major Amer Sartawi was unavailable to comment on the case.
