AMMAN — Royal Jordanian (RJ) said on Wednesday that its board has appointed Said Darwazeh as chairman, replacing Suleiman Hafez. Darwazeh had been appointed a representative of the Government Shareholding’s Management Company in RJ’s board of directors, the airline said in a statement, adding that RJ President and CEO Captain Suleiman Obeidat has now replaced Darwazeh in this seat.

There are nine members of the board, five of whom represent the Government Shareholdings’ Management Company, which owns 60.2 per cent of RJ capital, the statement said.

Darwazeh is currently the CEO and chairman of Hikma Pharmaceuticals Plc., and was the minister of health between 2003 and 2006. He is also chairman of the Queen Rania Foundation, and chairs the board of trustees of the Jordan University of Science and Technology, the statement added.
