Regional conflict taking heavy toll on Jordan’s farmers — minister

AMMAN — Agriculture Minister Khaled Hneifat on Thursday said the challenges facing the sector are not limited to climate change, rainfall delay and the spread of diseases, noting that they include unemployment, food security and the refugee burden.

Speaking at a two-day workshop to announce the results of FAO projects, Hneifat said Jordan’s farmers have suffered from the impact of regional conflicts on trade, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

FAO Representative in Jordan Nasredin Hag Elamin said the organisation’s aid to the Kingdom, since it became a member in 1951, has focused on developing the agricultural and rural sectors.
