AMMAN — The Karak Criminal Court prosecutor on Monday continued questioning a man who allegedly stabbed his wife to death and injured his teenage daughter a day earlier, official sources said.

The 51-year-old woman and her daughter were allegedly stabbed by the suspect while at their home in Karak, 140km south of Amman, on Sunday morning.

The suspect reportedly fled the house and was later arrested by a police patrol that was in the area.

“Prosecutor Minwer Sarayrah is currently questioning the suspect and other witnesses, including the couple’s three daughters, to learn more about the incident,” a senior judicial source said.

The judicial source refused to reveal the reason behind the alleged stabbing incident but said that there has been suggestion that the suspect was “intoxicated”.

“There are claims that the husband was intoxicated but we are still investigating the claims. Blood and tissue samples taken from the suspect were sent to the criminal lab for further analysis,” the senior judicial source told The Jordan Times.

The prosecutor will charge the suspect once he finishes taking witness statements and receives the results from the criminal lab.

Meanwhile, the 15-year-old daughter, who was also allegedly stabbed by her father, was discharged from hospital, according to a medical source.

The teenage victim is expected to be questioned by the prosecutor in the coming days, the judicial source added.

Sarayrah ordered the suspect’s detention at a correctional and rehabilitation centre for 25 days pending further investigations.
